Next or Submit button is greyed out

This issue can have multiple causes, each covered in a section below.

  • More than one data source is selected within Access Digital Tax.

  • The browser being used may not be compatible, or is not up to date.

  • Not all nine boxes have been correctly assigned to a cell in the spreadsheet file.

  • The machine is missing the registry keys that determine if a browser supports the file type.

1. Multiple data sources selected

  1. In Access Digital Tax, go to Account Details in the bottom right.

  2. Next to Data Source(s), click the **Edit** pencil icon. The Edit Data Sources window appears.

  3. If a data source has been selected, a tick covers the icon.

  4. If multiple data sources are selected, click each incorrect data source to deselect it. Options appear in the bottom half of the window.

  5. Next to each incorrect data source, clear the checkbox. If more than one has a checkbox, clear all of them — leaving any selected will prevent the tick from disappearing.

  6. Click **Save**. The Next or Submit button will no longer be greyed out.

2. Incorrect browser

Use one of the compatible browsers — Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Microsoft Edge — and ensure it is updated to the latest version.

3. File upload

When uploading a file, ensure each VAT box is matched to a cell in the spreadsheet. See the upload file submission article for guidance.

If uploading an Excel workbook, ensure it contains only the single worksheet with VAT figures. Keep any working-out in a separate workbook and link to it if needed.

4. Registry keys are missing

To fix this, ask your IT team to follow the steps below. Add the correct MIME types to the Windows registry for three file types at these locations:

  • Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\csv

  • Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\xlsx

  • Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\xls

Each location needs a string with the following key/value pairs:

  • Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.csv

  • Name: (Default) | Data: Excel.CSV

  • Name: Content Type | Data: application/vnd.ms-excel

  • Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.xlsx

  • Name: Content Type | Data: application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.spreadsheetml.sheet

  • Name: PerceivedType | Data: document

  • Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.xls

  • Name: Content Type | Data: application/vnd.ms-excel
